Dictatorships are not known for their openness of expression. Hell even in this country we have had presidents freeze out people who provide them with bad news. Obama comes to mind. If Putin is smart he has western TV stations on 24/7 and compares what they say with what his generals are telling him.
Having said that I personally would not trust anything coming out of the defense department or CIA regarding this war unless it could be independently verified.

The whole idea of using diversions in military tactics is to beat your enemies quickly and to reduce casualties. How's that working out?
They invaded with a smaller force then what Ukraine has and casualty figures reported by western media are inflated.
