President-elect Donald Trump began to add caveats to a host of his campaign promises, saying in an interview aired Sunday that he will work to keep some of the more popular parts of Obamacare intact and focus his deportation efforts on criminals — the same policy that President Obama claims to have.

But Mr. Trump, in an interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” stood his ground on Supreme Court picks, saying the justices he nominates will be pro-life and will back Second Amendment rights, though he added that same-sex marriage is “settled” and he doesn’t expect it to be reversed.

He also reiterated his call for term limits in Congress, promised to phase out the influence of lobbyists in Washington, doubted he would be taking many vacations and said he would reject the $400,000-a-year salary the president is due.

I was listening to laura Ingraham and she said there is a double fence that works great on the border now . I can see some parts of this border having a fence due to terrain and the like .

I agree 100%. Most border partol officers prefer a fence, you can see through it while still doing its job.
However, now hes not going to build a WALL, which people chanted about for over a year.
Hes not repealing Obamacare, just going to tweek it, exactly Hillary Clintons words.
Hes not going to deport illegal immigrants, just the criminals. Most of his supporters want ALL illegals gone.
And, he says hes going to keep many of Obamas programs in place, including many of his executive orders, which Trump demonized for 18 months.

I agree with most of his plans now, I knew what he was preaching while campaigning was not going to happen the way he said. However, most of his supporters want a wall that Mexico pays for. ALL illegal immigrants deported. Obamacare repealed and replaced, and ALL executive orders eliminated.

I wouldn't give up on Trump just yet. Realistically, we knew that obamacare couldn't be repealed overnight. And some of the good things about it should be kept in place. To totally abolish a policy and not keep the good aspects of it in place would just be out of spite. As far as the illegals I think you will see more emphasis on it and much of it will be put into the public eye so you can see something indeed is happening with it. If you think it's only going to be "criminals" being deported guess what. They are ALL criminals hence illegal. Lastly, who cares whether it's a wall or a fence or a moat or a force field as long as it works. That's what needs to be focused on. My concern is those that say it can't be done. There was another nation in history that built a very big wall. Hint: you can see it from space. But a wall alone won't work though. An emphasis has to be put on hiring more personnel to guard that wall. And let them do their job! Make it serious business getting caught crossing illegally. Make it known that there is very good chance you could lose your life trying to cross illegally as you are a foreign enemy combatant. But let's simmer down ladies and gents. Over the past 10 years I have spent a good deal of time very close to some of the double fences and sensors along various portions of the border.
They are quite effective. What they need is more personel to patrol them and loosening of the policies in regards to enforcement.
The double fence properly manned, monitored and maintained would be effective.

A sensor network with rapid reaction officers would probably be preferable to a wall anyway.

The problem is, many, many Trump voters do not. They want their WALL, they want Obamacare GONE and they want ALL illegals GONE.

From what i understand, medicare is out of money, and the architect of the ACA built medicare into obama care to keep it solvent- using the premiums of the people who signed up on the exchanges to keep it afloat. Can obmacare in its entirety and millions of Seniors lose their insurance coverage. The thing is that obama care was MEANT to fail and bring down the entire system. Then the feds could swan in a save everyone with a single payer plan.

I'm willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt on this. I (like 62M other voters) expect action on buy let's see how he accomplishes it. He's the guy who wrote "The Art of the Deal" remember. He's good at this kind of stuff. I hope he stays true to his word.

Also keep in mind that the leftist media is definitely going to try to spin things to make it look like Trump is going back on his word to piss off his voter base. So be careful and make sure that what we read is fact-checked to be true. For what it's worth there are some things that he will have to compromise on and anybody with sense should have known it from the start. He is the president and he can push for certain things to be done a certain way but ultimately Congress will have to write up a lot of this stuff and we know that is still packed with rinos.

There is a very basic reason why Obamacare did not and can not work. Adverse selection. In order for insurance to work, it must be priced to reflect the underlying risk pool. There are two fundamental aspects of ACA that impact this:
1. Allowing pre-existing conditions: Under the current ACA, someone can sign up for ACA and be covered immediately. Thus, a strategy of not-insuring until needed can be done.
2. Allowing those under 26 to stay on their parents plan: This removes some of the 'least costly' people to not be in the ACA pool.

Because of the above, the people in the ACA risk pool are skewed (adverse selection) and as a result the costs associated with the pool population are high. The penalty/tax/whaterver they are calling it today was designed to prevent it, but a $791 tax hit is much less than $5000-$7000 ACA annual premium, so most of those subject to the tax still don't sign up for ACA.

On top of this there are other issues, e.g. no inter-state competition and a bunch of items that are mandatory in the plan coverage - which also drives up costs.
