Actually the article said 'suspected abusers', which means that if the guy or gal down the road, the one with the Cuomo and Obama posters in the yard during near past elections, dials up the cops and files a complaint, that is now a suspicion. Voila' no due process required! As we have seen, the Constitution means NOTHING to these people.

Anytime a cop is called for a domestic incident guns are now seized and a Supreme Court judge has to issue and order to get them back. Incident can be anything from you yelled at your wife and a nigh or called the cops to you beat her to almost death. They are taking them even if the accused is not charged with a crime or even placed in handcuffs.

You guys might not do it directly, but I bet the licensing division immediately confiscates any licensed firearms as soon as they are notified that the "cops were called" to someone's house, and somebody living there has a handgun or long gun license.
There is ongoing litigation in Nassau County regarding these confiscations without due process, it would not surprise me if the licensing division at 1PP does something similar.

How many guns were sold between 1900 and 1968?

the government knows I own 5 handguns, they have no idea how many rifles I own. as a matter of fact, they not only don't know how many rifles I own, they have no idea where my guns are. Not to mention many people "manufacture" their own guns. The gun grabbers started with the NFA, and slowly made their way to the GCA, Brady bill and will attempt another federal AWB. I wonder how many unregistered machine guns are out there brought back from WWII,Korea, Vietnam collecting dust. The last machine gun amnesty was in 1968.

That I could not say. I'd say it depends on the cop, situation, and department. I know he said it stems from one judges ruling in Niagara county. He said it took one guy 18 months to get his guns back. Some delays were on the guys end, but he had to get an order from the Supreme Court judge to get them back. Also from what was said he didn't loose his pistol permit ever since he was never charged with any crime over the incident. He was never even arrested.

Unless the criteria is met that I posted above, the guns are not removed by anyone.

There's no system in place that automatically reports 911/311 calls to the licensing division. Furthermore, for any reason, when guns are removed by the licensing division, the request is sent to the local precinct. If a removal order was given for one of my DV households, I'd know about it.

It's not policy to remove firearms at DV jobs unless there's a justifiable reason. Any cop who does so outside of arrest or threats of violence is making up their own policy (at least here in NYC).

My precinct has the most firearms permits in the city. NYC permits are issued by the licensing division but logged by precinct (the permit number has the precinct number in it). I encounter legal firearms almost as much as any cop upstate. It is very rare to remove firearms from a legal owner, much more rare than the pro-gun media makes it out to be.

I must be stupid, I keep al of mine on planet earth.

Seriously though, some of us do not have another place to keep them other than in our homes. Burying them on public land seems a bit risky. Putting them into a storage container not much of an option as it easily would be discoverable by LE. Leaving them at a friends home is out of the question because I, for one, am not about to take on the liability of the friend or one of his family members doing something stupid with one of my guns. Yet, I might consider a relative's home but then again the relative would have to agree to that and would have to be trustworthy.

"they have no idea how many rifles I own" They get a better handle on our long guns when we buy or transfer as the serial numbers are entered into a data base. Big Brother could come to anyone's house in a few years and want to see if you still have the long guns you bought recently. It's getting worse and worse as time goes by
