What kind of ear pro do you use

Itypically use the electronic muffs from Howard Leight (range bag)an they are fine. I also have a set of Peltor Tactical 100 that stays on my night stand.

I recently found out about MSA Sordin Supreme Pro, and they look like they are very high quality. They cost almost $300, so I'm curious if they are really worth that kind of money over the other options that I have.

I also have tinnitus, the constant ringing is annoying, but I can tune it out unless it's perfectly quiet. I almost never wore hearing protection when I was younger when I was shooting or for work which is heavy construction.

I can never tune it out its more of the hiss and up n down steady ring that gets me though. Been so many damn years I've gotten so used to answering people yes or no instead of really hearing them..I change my answer by the reaction of their face if my no should have been a yes or my yes a no lol silence is by far the worst.

Well I'm at work right now, and I was just inside the work area and I couldn't notice it. I just stepped outside now and the ringing is so loud it's almost deafening.

I prefer the electronic muffs that allow me to hear range commands better. Right now I use the Peltor Tactical 100 and they work fine. My only complaint is they are a bit uncomfortable after about an hour of continuous wear. The thing that appeals to me about the MSA's are the gel ear seal. Some day when I have have some spare change I may pick up a pair.

When shooting indoors or in a covered rang I use foam ear plugs and the ear muffs 100% of the time. Either one alone simply does not cut the decibel level down enough. I know most people don't double up, but they should.

Not sure the electronic ones would work great for me. When we are on our range, there isnt much time in between shots. The muffs would be overworked.
Our neighbors bring their children inside when we get going. The neighbors are almost a mile away.

Yep, I always double up. ONE TIME I pulled the muffs up, was concentrating on the shot with my compensated .308 under cover, and forgot to pull them back down. (Hey, they were still on my head, so that counts, right?) The serious ringing went away about 3 days later. Lesson learned.

Celt, I have the same ones you do. I love them. Great set of electronic muffs at a reasonable price. I only wear them at the range. Thankfully my hearing is still amazing (eyes not so much), so I don't worry too much about the occasional hunting/real world shot while not wearing plugs.

Wife got them for me. They're not bad, a little tight but they'll loosen up. I'll probably end up getting the HL ones mentioned above, they were recommended by friends as well.

Mike's shop sells a small pair of electronic ones for like $20 I think. I forgot what they are, but I was considering them based on size alone. Maybe they're not electronic, but I thought they were.

I went from those green tactical electronic Howard Leights to MSA Sordins and they are a lot more comfortable and physically quieter. Probably not worth the 6-7x price difference however. I use these for pistol shooting mostly.

I also have custom molded earplugs made at an audiologist's office. I use these for clays because the muffs will interfere with my gun mount. These are pretty comfortable but not as comfortable as the muffs... but they are much cooler in warm weather.

At a noisy indoor range I'll use both muffs and plugs together. I can mount most long guns with muffs except for fancy shotguns where I really hunker down and their combs are built up.

I have two old pairs of Howard Leights and a pair of passive muffs (and glasses) upstairs on my bedside in case there ever is a firearms event in the house, we can protect ourselves and retain our hearing and awareness. I think many people don't understand what would happen if you shot inside the house, not only would you permanently damage your hearing, you'd probably be so disorientated that you wouldn't hear the intruder or your family.

When you're shooting inside or under a covered range, reflected sound is much more intense than in the open say on a trap or skeet line. I use military issue plugs in the open and Peltor 6S under cover.

I can't speak to center fire, but I have been present for a 16 gauge shotgun going of in a kitchen, and while horribly loud, and almost certainly damaging to my ears, it was not nearly as bad as most people make it out to be, and certainly wasn't loud enough to be disorienting.

This was also an accidental discharge due to a stuck firing pin, so there was no mental perpetuation for the shot going off.

I'm hopeful that is the case too but consider a narrower hallway and multiple rounds.... maybe it wouldn't be too disorientating or permanently damaging but I don't see a problem with ear and eye pro if you have the time to put it on.

I have a howard leight and after shooting at an indoor range my ears rang for a week . They do not after going to the peltor ...Hearing aids cost several thousand today.

Even one shot without ear protection is damaging and cumulative, you will pay later. A lot of my damage was unavoidable and I have hearing loss plus tinntitus for well over forty years. The last time, about four years ago, I accidentally forgot to replace my Peltor, I touched off a 30-06 under a roofed range house. It was a full five minutes before I heard anything more than what sounded like I was standing at the base of Niagra Falls. Thought I was done for good with that one.

I'm so deaf I wonder why I bother, but yeah cheap muffs with foam plugs underneath. Can't hear hardly anything with those on.

I don't know why anyone would wear muffs. They are heavy, make your ears sweat in the heat, put pressure on your glasses pressing into your temples, restrict head movement, and cost more.

I've worn these since I was 18 and now am 41. I get my hearing checked annually at work and still come out above average.
