The best you can do is the best you can do.
Smart move passing up questionable shots. At best, all day or all night tracking. At worst a wounded deer gets away to suffer.
No matter how much I do on our hunting property I wish I would have done
Just trying to give you a few tips to make your first hunting season a little easier. All these are school of hard knocks tips. Hopefully you find them useful and make your first season easier and successful.
No matter how much I do on our hunting property I wish I would have done more. Each year is an improvement over last year.
I keep an arrow with a field point in my 3 arrow quiver to uncock my Xbow at the end of each hunting day. Easier to remove from backstop. I have a target/backstop set up 30...
It's entirely possible to be zeroed @ 20 yards, a bit high @ 30, and zeroed again @ 40 due to arrow speed and trajectory.
I'd be curious to know how high @ 30 using the same dot. 3" high or less would be mint. You could use the same dot for a dead on hold to 40 yards.
I never gave body height much thought (I'm 6'2") so naturally I assumed it was just as easy for anyone to cock a crossbow using a RCD.
The rope on mine was too long, so I merely cut some off one end, and used a simple (double overhand) stopper knot to reattach the handle.
At 5'6" you must...
Since you'll be in my backyard, so to speak, best advice I can give is...if you're wading below the dam get your ass out of the water when the alarm sounds.
Just arrived...
The short version- new barrel for my BPS 12 gauge, 22" fully rifled with cantilever scope mount.
The longer, slightly more entertaining version- my wife and I were chatting at the kitchen table on the afternoon of Sept. 30th, I allowed as how I was going to voluntarily stop...
Well @Kent Goldings ...ima hand you the trophy. Try as I might, I can't motivate myself to get out there and squirrel hunt anymore. The whole time I'd likely be praying I didn't get one to skin and eat.
Hats off to you for getting out there sir, and enjoying the great outdoors.
To focus on...
Another tip if you want it, once your scope is dialed in, either shoot one arrow per bull or back up to at least 30 yards to increase group size and save from arrows striking each other and tearing up arrow fetching. Yes, they're that accurate.
Best accuracy means equal tension on both sides of...
You rotate the collar until the back side of the blades are BETWEEN the notches on the collar...do NOT line up the collar notches behind the blades.
Also you will see small notches on the back of the blades when in 'flight' position. These "lock" into collar and hold blades into flight...

Ima try these in my Browning BPS 12 gauge. Some years ago I purchased the extra Game Gun deer barrel V2.0, with rifle sights, Invector choke system, and included 5" OAL ported rifled choke tube.
I call it V2.0 because it was offered between the original Game Gun deer barrel with...
Exactly. Be sure to line up the arrows, so the back of the broadhead blades are between the notches on the collar. That part of the collar snaps off on impact and the blades open outward.
Edited for spelling and clarity.
You can rotate and get 3 uses per collar.
I use the Rage Crossbow X, and am very satisfied. They are nasty. Flies like a field point
NYS legal mechanical, because once deployed the blades will pivot back towards the front, thus are not 'barbed'.
We have had a shortage of turkeys for the last 6-7 years here due to repeated rainy damp cold springs. This year was warm and dry for good poult survival. Seeing many more flocks while driving so I'm encouraged.
Found it, ye olde P.S. Olt squirrel call, circa 1979. It was a minor miracle, considering I have a really bad habit of simply placing my orders on the floor of the walk in closet upstairs, instead of putting it all away.
The things I won't do for you guys.
I haven't hunted grays in at least 15-20 years. I might have to get out there and see if what y'all are saying is true, about a squirrel 'shortage'.
I'll bring my new Benelli Monte 20 gauge along, with improved modified choke, some Winchester Super-X high brass 6's, and see about this here...
